Another year another succesful show for the team at MachTech Services.
This year's exhibit, a 29 tonne RDF / SRF secondary shredder, the Lindner Power Komet 2800, believed to be the largest indoor shredder exhibit yet shown at RWM, earned rave reviews from visitors and exhibitors alike.
The Power Komet 2800 capable of producing in excess of 10 tonnes per hour of RDF / SRF is the result of over a decades research and development by Lindner Recyclingtech. Operational machines throughout the UK and Europe including cement companies such as Cemex and Holcim and progressive waste companies such as Premier Waste UK and Powerday prove the machines capabilities day after day.
Also exhibited by MachTech were a scale model of a 'Compact Plant' for RDF / SRF production and the cutting rotor from a Jupiter 3200 primary shredder as used by Mid UK Recycling, this pre-shredder range is capable of high volume throughputs and defined output particle of bulky wastes, MSW, Commercial and Industrial.
The Jupiter rotor, perceived by many to be a work of Art, is 3.2 metres long and has been fitted with wear protection.
MachTech Services Ltd and Lindner Recyclingtech would like to thank the staff at the NEC, the MRW and the RWM organisers for another fantastically organised show. |

| Lindner Triumph at 2008 Award |
Tuesday 16th December 2008 |
|
Following success in 2007, which saw Lindner take 3rd place in two categories with the "Heavy Fraction Separator HFS 1200", Lindner Recyclingtech GmbH were awarded a prestigious 2nd place at the "Carinthian Innovation and Research Award 2008" for their secondary shredder, the POWER KOMET.
Lindner Recyclingtech GmbH is one of the pioneers in the shredding technology for various waste materials. Apart from the development, the complete construction as well as the prototype and serial-production of the shredding machines takes place at Lindner. Many years of knowledge and numerous product innovations have resulted in the development of the new secondary waste shredder, the POWER KOMET - a machine which is used mainly within the RDF marketplace.
The new develpoment of the POWER KOMET has both economic and ecologic peak values, with the outstanding attribute being the exceptional drive system with centrifugal mass. Independent experts confirm that with this concept, which is rather uncommon in this industry so far, an energy saving of at least 20% can be achieved. In combination with the existing cutting system developed by Lindner, energy savings totalling 50% can be achieved compared to competition in this market area.
The principle of drive systems with centrifugal mass was discovered by Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th Century. Lindner managed to harness this old technology into a technologically trend setting form for the efficient processing of waste. Besides the low energy consumption, the minimization of downtimes by maintenance works and the maximization of operation reliability, are essential for the operation of shredders. This can be achieved by two patent pending solutions: optimal accessibility to the cutting system and an extremely simplified maintenance by an elastic screen-clamping system. In shredding technology, the screens are used to classify the treated material in fractions of different sizes, and with the new clamping system these screens can easily and quickly be changed.
The POWER KOMET stands out by it's particularly dynamic design. The drive guards, which are made out of glass fibre reinforced plastics, are not only good looking but contribute also to an increase of security, a reduction of the operation noises and enable easier maintenance works by a simplified access to the drive unit.
The POWER KOMET was launched in May 2008 at IFAT (International Trade Fair for water, sewage, refuse and recycling) in Munich, Germany, and was extremely well received by customers. Mach Tech Services became the first agents to sell the POWER KOMET 2800 to progressive waste company, Wastecycle Ltd.

The largest recycling expo in the World was the place to be be for the movers and shakers in the recycling industry, naturally MachTech helped man the Lindner Stand at the Munich IFAT.
Lindner used the exhibition to launch the Power Komet, a new concept based on the proven Komet range of machinery, these machines are used extensivley throughout the world for the production of RDF flock and whilst competitors launched machinery to target the RDF Industry, 10 years of R&D from Lindner has once again left them streets ahead of other manufacturers.
The new Power Komet offers substantial energy saving, excellent maintenance access and is, of course, backed up by MachTech in the UK.
RDF production is now much in demand in the UK and MachTech are currently working on a large number of projects to facilitate the production of RDF from MSW, Construction Industry Waste and other waste streams.
Lindner Press Release
At IFAT 08 Lindner-Recyclingtech GmbH introduced the POWER KOMET – the new generation in secondary shredding. The LINDNER centrifugal mass-drive system comes out on top – 20 to 50 % energy savings speaks for itself.
The intensified environmental awareness and the permanently increasing costs for energy are the main reasons why energy-efficient drive systems gain increasingly in importance also in shredding technology.
With the centrifugal mass-drive system Lindner-Recyclingtech GmbH succeeded in combining the highly efficient original Lindner shredding system with an energy saving drive system. Comprehensive endurance testing, carried out by independent institutions, confirm that the new Lindner drive system technology in the secondary shredder POWER KOMET has energy savings of 20 % compared to the Lindner KOMET. Comparing the Lindner KOMET to competitor's machines, which work with known drive systems such as gear drive, normal belt drive, direct drive e.g. the Torque drive, energy savings of more than 50 % were documented, based on the output. In comparison to machines with even more inefficient drive systems such as e.g. the hydraulic drive, the advantage is even greater.
For decades, Lindner-Recyclingtech GmbH has dealt with various drive systems for shredding tech-nology and the advantages of centrifugal mass drive systems have been used and implemented for many years. With the new countershaft drive in the POWER KOMET, the well known energy storage ability of revolving centrifugal mass is used.
Shredding machines don’t work with a constant power rating which is highly variable, as it depends on material input and cutting system. Because of the damping of those acyclic power requirements by the centrifugal mass drive system, there is a constant demand on electric energy and therefore enormous potential for energy savings. With this centrifugal mass drive system of Lindner-Recyclingtech GmbH peak demands can be reduced up to the five-fold nominal torque, whereas the electric energy is only used up to the two-fold nominal torque!
Besides the excellent value of low-energy consumption, the easy maintenance and the engine power of the LINDNER-drive systems must also be stated, as well as that the whole machine concept is fo-cused on easy, robust and efficient industry technology. First priority is always the highest possible availability through easy and fast maintenance possibilities as well as the worldwide availability of machine components (e.g. drive motor, belts, etc.). With the new secondary shredder POWER KOMET, the availability has been increased thanks to solutions which are patent pending.
Lindner-Recyclingtech GmbH can refer to more than 10 years of experience in the field of driveless high-torque belt drives with a torque of 70.000 Nm. In this period more than 300 driveless high torque belt drives were implemented.
